György Vashegyi deserves the gratitude of the Hungarian audience not only for promoting the gems, creators and masterpieces of French music and musical theatre, but also for introducing us to a host of highly talented performers. This occasion offers a chance to make the close acquaintance of the young up-and-coming tenor Julien Henric as he helps us discover an entire range of operas and composers over the course of an evening of Romantic arias. The programme features not only some big names from the world of 19th-century Parisian musical theatre, but also others that have ended up in various degrees of obscurity. This means that, in addition to melodies by Bizet, Gounod, Berlioz and Offenbach, we will hear a representative selection of excerpts from the works for the stage by such musicians as Louis Clapisson, the prolific master of the opéra comique genre, and Marguerite Olagnier, a composer particularly drawn to Oriental exoticism.

Palace of Arts Müpa Budapest

When Müpa Budapest, Hungary and its capital's new cultural hub, opened in 2005, it was built to represent more than 100 years of Hungarian cultural history. As a conglomeration of cultural venues, the building has no precedent in 20th century Hungarian architecture and has no peers in the whole of Central Europe.

The creators of this ambitious project, the Trigránit Development Corporation, prime contractor Arcadom Construction and the Zoboki, Demeter and Partners Architectural Office, were driven by the desire to create a new European cultural citadel as part of the new Millennium City Centre complex along the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Danube waterfront. The result is a facility whose construction quality, appearance, functionality and 21st century technological infrastructure makes it ideally suited to productions of the highest standard. The building is also highly versatile and equipped to host performances of any genre and almost any scale.
