A joint performance of the Margitsziget Theater and the Hungarian Opera of Cluj

After the premiere in 2012, the wildly moving show will be presented again in the summer of 2023 as a joint production of the Margitsziget Theater and the Hungarian Opera of Cluj.

The spectacular performance explores a legendary female figure and a historical era that is still controversial, in a style and genre-creating form. The musical-opera Erzsébet Báthory presents the mysterious story of Erzsébet Báthory.

Legend or reality? Conceptual affair or unfulfilled love? Murderer or victim? Erzsébet Báthory: the woman, the mother, the wife, the lover. The musical, created with a broad melodic world and composed with an operatic demand, portrays a strong but sensitive female figure besieged by jealousy and the desire for power. Her figure served as the inspiration for numerous literary works, poems, novels and films both at home and abroad, as she is simultaneously present in secret, jealousy, love, desire, eroticism, sensitivity and sadism.

The text of the musical-opera was written by Tibor Miklós (Anna Karenina, Abigél, Bégy jó mindhalálig, Menyasszonytanc, Sztárcinálók), and the music was composed by György Szomor (Nutcracker and Mouse King, Count of Monte Cristo, Robin Hood). The performance was dreamed up by Bertalan Bagó with set designs by Rita Vereckei and costume designs by Bori Kiss, choreographed by Péter Novák.
