MÁV Symphony Orchestra

The year 2019 will mark the 45th anniversary of Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi's first visit to Hungary, and he has been a key figure in the Hungarian music world ever since. His popularity remains unbroken even as three generations of Hungarian music lovers have grown up in the meantime. Kobayashi won Hungarian Television's first international conducting competition and served for many years as the chief music director of the Hungarian State Concert Orchestra and honorary guest conductor of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra. As he has said several times, the latter was the first orchestra he ever conducted outside of his homeland (in the first round of the conducting competition), and that pleasant experience formed the entire foundation for how he came to feel about Hungarian music and people. At this concert, he will also be making his début as a composer. It will be interesting to hear his creative output in his own musical mother tongue, as the extraordinary humility and empathy with which he interprets the works of other composers is already well known. Kobayashi's piece will be followed by one composition from each of the three greatest Hungarian composers.
