The story of Attila, the most famous great king of the European Huns, inspired the most outstanding Italian opera composer, Giuseppe Verdi, who created a fiery, dynamic, complex and characterful work from the moving story of Attila, "the scourge of God". The libretto is partly by Temistocle Solera and partly by Francesco Maria Piave. The story is based on the 1809 drama Attila, King of the Huns by Zacharias Werner. It has been performed all over the world, from the Paris Opera to the Metropolitan Opera.
